A quantitative trait locus analysis of natural genetic variation for Drosophila melanogaster oxidative stress survival

Article Abstract:

A study investigates survival in a high-oxygen environment at two adult densities using a set of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) isolated from a natural population of Drosophila melanogaster as well as the genetic correlations and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for oxidative stress survival and early-age egg productions. The QTLs for oxidative stress survival are relatively abundant and found across the second and third chromosomes, suggesting that the genetic architecture of the trait is quite complex, but there is little evidence that average early-age production and oxidative stress survival are correlated.

AFLP to assess genetic variation in laboratory gerbils (meriones unguiculatus)

Article Abstract:

The Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) technique is employed for characterizing inbred breeds of animals and detecting strain-specific polymorphisms. The genetic differentiation of laboratory bred gerbils by means of AFLP markers are investigated.
