A small RNA regulates multiple ABC transporter mRNAs by targeting C/A-rich elements inside and upstream of ribosome-binding sites

Article Abstract:

A study provides biochemical and genetic evidence that a conserved G/U-rich region within GcvB mediates translational repression of seven ABC transporter mRNAs. While GcvB represses some of these targets by covering their RBS, this sRNA can inhibit mRNA translation by binding to regions upstream of the RBS.

Lost in translation: The influence of ribosomes on bacterial mRNA decay

Article Abstract:

The influence of ribosomes on bacterial mRNA degradation during translation is analyzed. It is discovered that ribosomes can trigger the decay of mRNA to which they are bound or send a signal that leads to mRNA destabilization within a cell but the molecular mechanisms behind this are poorly understood.

Translation repression by GLD-1 protects its mRNA targets from nonsense-mediated mRNA decay in C.elegans

Article Abstract:

It is observed that GLD-1 stabilizes the mRNAs of two targets. Analysis of several mRNA targets containing premature stop codons suggest that in translation regression, GLD-1 either represses ribosome assembly on the target mRNA, or subsequent ribosome elongation to the premature stop codon.
