Cell cycle regulated transport controlled by alterations in the nuclear pore complex

Article Abstract:

Results show that during nuclear transport of macromolecules in mitosis, the nuclear pore complex is capable of inhibit the Kap121p-mediated import pathway. Data indicate that the inhibitory action is triggered by structural rearrangements within the nuclear pore complex exposing Kap121p binding site on Nup539 nucleoporin.

A role for Ran-GTP and Crm1 in blocking re-replication

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that cdk 2 kinase activation during cell cycle G1-S phase transition induces Ran-GTP-Crm1-MCM complex, which in turn sequesters free nuclear MCM leading to inhibition of pre-RC formation and re-replication in metazoans. Data suggest that Crm1 mediates both nuclear export and re-replication inhibition.

A new role for Ran in ensuring precise duplication of chromosomal DNA

Article Abstract:

This article describes the mechanism of precise duplication of chromosomal DNA in each cell cycle mediated by the small GTPase Ran protein. Research shows that Ran inhibits the licensing of replication origins in S phase once the cyclin-dependent kinases become active in the cell cycle.
