A-to-I pre-mRNA editing in Drosophila is primarily involved in adult nervous system function and integrity

Article Abstract:

Research points out that in Drosophila, some ion channel genes exhibit specific A-to-I RNA editing mediated by the adenosine deaminase acting on RNA gene (ADAR) enzyme. Adult flies lacking ADAR show behavioral changes accompanied by neurodegeneration suggesting that A-to-I RNA editing of pre-mRNAs affects nervous system function.

Alzheimer's disease: Neurodevelopment converges with neurodegeneration

Article Abstract:

This article discusses Alzheimer's disease pathology in relation to the intracellular signaling pathways and proteins genetically connected with the disease. Data suggest that a relationship exists between the disease associated genes and cognate proteins involved in the signaling pathways.
