A unified nomenclature for the nuclear receptor superfamily

Article Abstract:

Nuclear hormone receptors (NRs) are known to be involved in a diverse set of physiological functions that includes homeostasis, cell differentiation and control of embryonic development. Much attention has been paid to these NRs, so much so that over 300 sequences of NRs have been identified since the late 1980s. However, the plethora of names derived using an outdated nomenclature has made life needlessly difficult for researchers. For this reason, a unified nomenclature system is proposed wherein names are chosen on the basis of a phylogenetic tree that links all known NR sequences.

Repression of heat shock transcription factor HSF1 activation by HSP90 (HSP90 complex) that forms a stress-sensitive complex with HSF1

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine if the heat shock protein Hsp90 or another constituent of Hsp90-containing multichaperone complexes can be considered as major repressors of heat shock transcription factor HSF1. In this study, an in vitro system that recapitulates the initial step of HSF activation in vivo was made. Results confirmed the ability of Hsp90 in functioning as HSF1 repressor.
