Accuracy and precision of methods to estimate the number of parents contributing to a half-sib progeny array

Article Abstract:

Research into the calculation of parent numbers contributing to a large-sib progeny array is presented. It is concluded that the hapolotypes estimator is more efficient than the traditional multilocus minimum method.

Genetic perspectives on the natural history of fish mating systems

Article Abstract:

Research into genetic mating and biological parentage has revealed that some 70-95% of offspring is parented by nest-guarding fish, while around 33% of nests are cuckolded.

Cytonuclear introgressive swamping and species turnover of bass after an introduction

Article Abstract:

Introduction of spotted bass, Micropterus punctulatus, into a reservoir in Georgia that was originally occupied by smallmouth bass, M. dolomieui, has resulted in the replacement of M. dolomieui by spotted bass or a hybrid of the two. Cytonuclear studies, including the mitochondrial DNA analysis, indicate introgressive swamping of the M. dolomieui, and explains the species turnover in the reservoir. The behavioral interaction between the two species, and ecological and environmental changes may be the cause for the demographic shift.
