Acquired thermotolerance and stressd-phase growth of the extremely thermoacidophilic archaeon Metallosphaera sedula in continuous culture

Article Abstract:

The effect of thermal stress on the extremely thermoacidophilic archaeon Metallosphaera sedula was studied by employing a 10-liter continuous cultivation system. Results indicated the sensitivity of the M. sedula to changes in growth temperature at or near the upper growth temperature limit. Gradual thermal acclimation of the continuous culture of M. sedula caused the establishment of a stressed phase at 81 degrees C which could be maintained at a steady state for extended periods of time.

The genome sequence of the metal-mobilizing, extremely thermoacidophilic archaeon Metallosphaera sedula provides insights into bioleaching-associated metabolism

Article Abstract:

The complete genome sequence of the extremely thermoacidophilic archaeon Metallosphaera sedula DSM 5348 has described the biologically catalyzed metal sulfide oxidation and comparative genomics has identified the pathways and proteins involved with bioleaching. The whole-genome transcriptional response analysis is used for identifying specific open reading frames (ORFs) related to Fe oxidation.

Enzymatic approach to eurythermalism of Alvinella pompejana and its episymbionts

Article Abstract:

Suitable genes are identified by using bioinformatic tools in the metagenome and cloned into an expression vector. The enzyme eurythermalism and thermophily of Alvinella pompejana are characterized by using the equilibrium model.
