Adaptive gradients and isolation-by-distance with postglacial migration in Picea sitchensis

Article Abstract:

The growth performance and pollen genetic structure among populations are compared in order to investigate the response of populations of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) to local selection along the historical migration route. The correlation between geographic and pollen haplotype genetic distances have shown that the current genetic structure is shaped by isolation-by-distance and has developed in relatively few generations, suggesting limited gene flow among populagnations in recent timescale.

Impacts of forest fragmentation on the mating system and genetic diversity of white spruce (Picea glauca) at the landscape level

Article Abstract:

Studies of the mating system of white spruce (Picea glauca) in a landscape fragmented by agriculture in Canada indicate that white spruce stands in this fragmented landscape are resistant to genetic diversity losses, primarily through high pollen-mediated gene-low and early selection against inbred embryos. The importance of using seed data in conjunction with genetic data to evaluate the impacts of fragmentation of natural populations is discussed.

Fine-scale estimation of outcrossing in western redcedar with microsatellite assay of bulked DNA

Article Abstract:

The mating system variation in the western redcedar was estimated to identify correlates of outcrossing in natural populations. No significant differences in outcrossing were detected among crown positions.
