Effects of competition of resistance gene polymorphism in a plant/pathogen system

Article Abstract:

Four two-way mixtures of wheat genotypes susceptible to different races of Paccinia striiformis, were planted at different frequencies in both the presence and absence of disease. Disease was not able to reverse the relative ranking of the two genotypes based on competition and to create the negative frequency dependence on both genotypes in a mixture that is needed for the maintenance of genetic polymorphism.

Roles of lineage sorting and phylogenetic relationship in the genetic diversity at the self-incompatibility locus of Solanaceae

Article Abstract:

Lineage sorting and phylogenetic relationship have been studied in the genetic diversity at the self-incompatibility locus of Solanaceae. It seems likely, based on the study, that species-specific S-polymorphism is based on lineage sorting, the effect of which is modified further by species age and historical changes in population parameters.

An excess of nonsynonymous polymorphism and extensive haplotype structure at the PtABI 1B locus in European aspen (Populus tremula): a case of balancing selection in an obligately outcrossing plant?

Article Abstract:

Halotype structure at the PtABI1B locus is described in the oligately outcrossing tree Populus tremula. It is revealed that both nucleotide diversity and divergence at PtABI1B is low compared to other Populus tremula genes, which suggest that the gene is located in a region with a low mutation rate.
