Analysis of errors in finished DNA sequences: the surfactin operon of Bacillus subtilis as an example

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of finished DNA sequences obtained from three laboratories helps estimate the nature and number of errors associated with the overlapping part of the DNA sequence. The errors are observed in secondary DNA structures and in compression in sequence ladders. A novel sequencing technique that decrease the error rate and the sequencing cost is discussed. Errors are also observed in the frameshift detection by computer programs.

The Q15H mutation enables Crh, a Bacillus subtilis HPr-like protein, to carry out some regulatory HPr functions, but does not make it an effective phosphocarrier for sugar transport

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine any changes in the catalytic and regulatory functions of catabolite repression HPr (Crh) protein by substituting glutamine-15 to a histidine residue. Results show that the modification, although it enables Crh carry out phosphorylation, it disables sugar transport function to Crh.

Glycerol transport and phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent enzyme I- and HPr-catalysed phosphorylation of glycerol kinase in Thermus flavus

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to demonstrate the mechanism of glycerol transport and phosphorylation of glycerol kinase in Thermus flavus. Results show glucose represses glycerol transport and metabolism, and phosphoenol-pyruvate dependent phosphorylate glycerol kinase.
