Antifungal proteins

Article Abstract:

The properties of many fungal proteins are described. Topics include PR-1 proteins, PR-2 proteins (beta-glucanases), PR-3 proteins (chitinases), PR-4 (chitin-binding) proteins, PR-5 (TL) proteins, defensins, cyclophilin-like protein, glycine/histidine-rich proteins, RIPs, LTPs, killer proteins, and protease inhibitors. These proteins could be used therapeutically, since they inhibit other fungi.

Isolation and in vivo and in vitro antifungal activity of phenylacetic acid and sodium phenylacetate from Streptomyces humidus

Article Abstract:

Researchers isolated substances with antifungal activity from Streptomyces humidus and identified the substances as phenylacetic acid and sodium phenylacetate. The chemicals completely inhibited the growth of Pythium ultimum, Phytophthora capsici, Rhizoctonia solani, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae.

Specificity and mode of action of the antifungal fatty acid cis-9-heptadecenoic acid produced by Pseudozyma flocculosa

Article Abstract:

cis-9-heptadecenoic acid produced by Pseudozyma flocculosa appears to adversely affect fungi by increasing membrane fluidity, which in turn leads to membrane disorder, conformational changes in membrane proteins, and increased membrane permeability. Low membrane sterol content facilitates these changes.
