Applicability of an immunoblot technique combined with a semiautomated electrophoresis system for detection of staphylococcal enterotoxins in food extracts

Article Abstract:

Thecombination of of an immunoblot technique with a semiautomated electrophoresis system for the detection of staphylococcal enterotoxins (SE) is discussed. Extracts from artificially contaminated foods and extracts from collection strains producing SE were used to study staphyloccoccal protein A. Gel electrophoresis was used to analyze the protein. Results ascertained the adequacy of the technique.

Field evaluation of a semiautomated method for rapid and simple analysis of recreational water microbiological quality

Article Abstract:

Development and performance characteristics of a rapid semiautomated method for the detection of fecal coliforms in recreational waters are presented. The new method shows a 83.9% agreement as against the standard method and a 89.3% positivity independently. The technique shows 2.9% and 7.8% false positive and false negative results, respectively.

Assessment of the effects of holding time and temperature on Escherichia coli densities in surface water samples

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that the holding time for the surface water samples, collected from drinking water utility sources, is 8 hours if the samples are held below 10 C. Data indicate that estimation of Escherichia coli densities by the method reflects those determined within 8 hours of sample collection.
