Bacterial alginate biosynthesis - recent progress and future prospects
Article Abstract:
Alginate is a type of extracellular polysaccharide often associated with Pseudomonas lung infection but is also produced by other microorganisms such as plant pathogens and Azotobacter. It is also a component of biofilms. Much has been discovered about the biosynthesis of alginate thanks to the concerted efforts of biochemists, molecular biologists, microbiologists and a host of other disciplines. The studies undertaken concerning alginate biosynthesis are reviewed.

Malate synthase from Streptomyces clavuligerus NRRL3585: cloning, molecular characterization and its control by acetate
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine malate synthase, a key enzyme of the glyoxylate cycle, from Streptomyces clavuligerus NRRL3585. The entire gene was cloned and sequenced using genome walking methods based on anchored PCR. Its genetic diversity was investigated using computational analysis. Results demonstrated the enzymic activity of the gene in Escherichia coli BL21 which validated the biochemical functionality of the cloned gene.
