Bacterial synergism or antagonism in a gel cassette system

Article Abstract:

The growth and activity of Shewanella putrfaciens, Brochothrix thermosphacta and pseudomonas species when cultured individually or in all possible combinations in gel cassettes system supplemented with 0.1 percent glucose at 5 degree Celsius were investigated. The findings stated that the coexistence of these microorganisms affected not only each growth rate but also their type of metabolic end products compared to the control cultures.

Genetic diversity and horizontal transfer of genes involved in oxidation of reduced phosphorus compound by Alcaligenes faecalis WM2072

Article Abstract:

The isolation and characterization of the hyphosphorus-oxidation genes organism Alcaligenes faecalis WM2072 is described providing evidence that there has been horizontal gene transfer of the trait and ancient evolution of phosphite oxidation. It is found that Alcaligenes faecalis NAD-dependent phosphite dehydrogenase (ptxD) is very different from its Pseudomonas stutzeri homolog and represents a new ptxD lineage.

Changes in bacterioplankton composition under different phytoplankton regimens

Article Abstract:

Microcosm phytoplankton blooms induced by nutrient enrichment are discussed. The growth of bacterioplankton assemblages in general and on specific phylotypes in particular under different phytoplankton regimens induced by turbulence is described.
