Biological control of hog waste odor through stimulated microbial Fe(III) reduction

Article Abstract:

Stimulated Fe(III) reduction in hog manure can rapidly remove the malodorous compounds and enhance methane production by 200%. The study showed that Fe(III) supplementation combined with appropriate bioaugmentation provides a simple, cost-effective approach to deodorize and treat swine waste, removing a significant impediment to the expansion of pork production facilities.

Development of a swine-specific fecal pollution marker based on host differences in methanogen mcrA genes

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to evaluate methanogen diversity in animal hosts to develop a swine-specific archaeal molecular market for fecal source tracking in surface waters. The study utilized methanogens for the first time for the development of a swine-specific fecal contamination marker.

Automated image analysis for quantitative fluorescence in situ hybridization with environmental samples

Article Abstract:

An automated method for analyzing fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) images with fuzzy c-means clustering (FCM) which was developed by using swine manure and soil as representative complex environmental samples is presented.
