Functional and genomic analyses reveal an essential coordination between the unfolded protein response and ER-associated degradation

Article Abstract:

Functional and genomic analyses have shown required coordination between the unfolded protein response (UPR) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated degradation. The transcriptional scope of the UPR has been determined through use of DNA microarrays. The UPR affects multiple ER and secretory pathway functions.

Block of HAC1 mRNA translation by long-range base pairing is released by cytoplasmic splicing upon induction of the unfolded protein response

Article Abstract:

The unfolded protein response pathway in endoplasmic reticulum is controlled by Hac1p transcription factor that is produced when intron at the 3'end of mRNA is removed. Data show that a base-pairing interaction between the intron and 5' region of mRNA blocks mRNA translation.

A role for presenilin-1 in nuclear accumulation of Ire1 fragments and induction of the mammalian unfolded protein response

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that induction of unfolded protein response in mammalian cells involves proteolytic cleavage of transmembrane kinase/endoribonuclease Ire1 and that presenilin-1 controls Ire1 proteolysis.
