Characterization of the properties of human- and dairy-derived probiotics for prevention of infectious diseases in fish

Article Abstract:

The probiotics Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus can be used in fisheries to prevent fish infections with Aeromonas salmonicida. Currently, antibiotics are used but they are expensive and the pathogen can become resistant to them.

Surface binding of aflatoxin B(sub 1) by lactic acid bacteria

Article Abstract:

Some lactic acid bacteria can remove aflatoxin B(sub1) from solutions. Lactobacillus rhamnosus strains GG (ATCC 53103) and LC-705 (DSM 7061) were most efficient at removing aflatoxin B(sub 1) and non-viable bacteria retained more aflatoxin B(sub 1) than viable bacteria.

Alteration of the canine small-intestinal lactic acid bacterium microbiota by feeding of potential probiotics

Article Abstract:

The survival of the potentially canine fecal lactic acid bacterium (LAB) strains fed to five permanently fistulated beagles for 7 days, were monitored for 17 days for their potential effects on the indigenous intestinal LAB microbiota. It was seen that the five fed LAB strains survived in the upper GI tract and modified the dominant preexisting indigenous jejunal LAB microbiota of the dogs and it was concluded that strains LAB8 to LAB 12 have potential as probiotic strains for dogs.
