Chloroplast DNA inheritance in the Orchid Anacamptis palustris using single-seed polymerase chain reaction

Article Abstract:

Methodology to develop a single-seed polymeras chain reaction (PCR) amplification protocol for a large progeny screening by using a minisatellite locus located in the chloroplast intron of the strictly out-breeding orchid Anacamptis palustris as a molecular marker is described. Findings reveal that the potential presence of paternal chloroplasts in the embryo would not be masked by the presence of maternal chloroplasts in the seed coat.

Chinese white Rongchang pig does not have the dominant white allele of 'Kit' but has the dominant black allele of 'MCIR'

Article Abstract:

A gene duplication and splice mutation of mast/stem cell growth factor receptor (KIT) was diagnosed in Rongchang pigs in order to study the genetic variability of the KIT and melanocortin receptor I (MCIR) and the likelihood of their association with the coat color phenotype. The results show that Rongchang pigs have a single copy of KIT without the splice mutation at the first nucleotide of intron 17.

Recent trends in population genetics: More data! More Math! Simple models?

Article Abstract:

Recent developments in population genetics are reviewed. Five limiting forms of the island model of population subdivision with the migration are presented in a unified framework. These approximations illustrate the interplay between migration and drift in structuring gene genealogies.
