Chromosome evolution in the erythrinid fish, Erythrinus erythrinus (Teleostei: Characiformes)

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of the chromosomes structure of six local samples of E. erythrinus is carried out and cytotaxonomic and evolutionary data for Erythrinidae fish group is provided. It is found that local samples of E. erythrinus retain exclusive and fixed chromosomal features indicating that this species can represent a species complex.

Molecular evolution: Lateral gene transfer and other possibilities

Article Abstract:

Lateral gene transfer occurs in higher plants, where disparate lineages occasionally exchange parts of their genetic fabric. The other possibility is the unusual polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products from Amborella stem from substrates somewhere in its genome, but that the unusual trees are not due to (LGT).

Wolbachia infection in the terrestrial isopod Oniscus asellus: sex ratio distortion and effect on fecundity

Article Abstract:

The article examines maternally inherited Wolbachia bacteria responsible for feminization of genetic males in the terrestrial isopod Oniscus asellus. The negative effect of the bacteria on host fecundity and survival of infected offspring are described.
