Clinical and environment isolates of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 cannot be distinguished by sequence analysis of two surface protein genes and three housekeeping genes

Article Abstract:

The relationship between clinical and environmental Legionella pneumophila serogroup (sp) 1 isolates is studied and whether sporadic, epidemic, and endemic belong to specific lineages is determined. Clinical and epidemiological isolates could not be distinguished on the given basis, and no link between genetic background and epidemiological isolates type was found, suggesting that other factors are responsible for differences in pathogenicity.

Rapid detection and enumeration of Legionella pneumophila in hot water systems by solid-phase cytometry

Article Abstract:

A new method for the rapid and sensitive detection of Legionella pneumophila in hot water systems is presented. Current methods for the detection of Legionella species are based on culture techniques and require at least 3 to 10 days.
