Comparative genomic analyses of the vibrio pathogenicity island and cholera toxin prophage regions in nonepidemic serogroup strains of Vibrio cholerae

Article Abstract:

Comparative genetic analysis of nonepidemic Vibrio cholerae serogroup strains, carrying vibrio pathogenicity island cluster and cholera toxin prophage, show that the non-O1 and non-O139 strains are genetically diverse and distinct from the epidemic strains. Data suggest that these two potentially pathogenic, nonepidemic strains are probably evolved by sequential horizontal acquisition of vibrio pathogenicity island cluster and cholera toxin prophage.

Enterotoxigenicity and genetic relatedness of Clostridium perfringens isolates from retail foods in the United States

Article Abstract:

In an analysis of 131 food samples from retail food stores from the northeastern United States, 40 isolates are obtained. Polymerase chain reaction data indicate that all isolates possess the alpha toxin genebut not the enterotoxin gene. Furthermore, approximately 5% of the isolates are closely related.

Characteristics of Vibrio parahaemolyticus O3:K6 from Asia

Article Abstract:

Results show that the O3:K6 strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolated from different geographic regions of Asia are genetically similar excepting some biological traits which were strain specific. All strains possessed the thermostable direct hemolysin gene.
