Cytochrome b gene haplotypes characterize chromosomal lineages of anoa, the Sulawesi dwarf buffalo

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the haplotype divergence in the Sulawesi dwarf buffalo. DNA was obtained from washed lymphocyte nuclei while sequences were aligned based on the cytochrome b haplotype published for domestic taurine cattle. Qiaex DNA elution kits were then utilized to determine amplicons from preparative agarose gels. Some of the wide cattle species sampled in the study include the mountain anoa, gaur, banteng, prairie bison and cape buffalo.

Restricted gene flow in the Caribbean staghorn coral 'Acropora cervicornis': Implications for the recovery of endangered reefs

Article Abstract:

The population genetic structure in the staghorn coral Acropora cervicornis is compared across the greater Caribbean using DNA sequence data from mitochondrial and nuclear genes. Results reveal that local source populations are required for the recovery of endangered Caribbean staghorn corals that target conservation efforts over spatial scales much smaller than the hundreds of thousands of kilometers usually proposed for marine reserves.

A comprehensive evaluation of cattle introgression into U.S. federal bison herd

Article Abstract:

U.S. federal bison populations were examined for evidence of both mitochondrial and nuclear domestic cattle (Bos taurus) introgression. Out of 11, only one population was identified with domestic cattle mitochondrial DNA introgression.
