DNA precursor asymmetries, replication fidelity, and variable genome evolution

Article Abstract:

Replication-active deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate (dNTP) pools in T4 DNA synthesis were studied by the rII mutation reversion appproach. Result show that a localized, rapidly replenished minute quantity of hydroxymethyl-deoxycytosine triphosphate induces replication in prokaryotic systems. On the other hand, eukaryotic systems have a highly asymmetric normal dNTP replication pool, with deoxyguanosine triphosphate found at a subsaturating concentration. It is speculated that this assymetry contributes to the differential evolution rate of different genes in the same genome.

Theoretical morphology of developmental asymmetries

Article Abstract:

Morphology of hard parts is the only evidence that fossil material provide and to understand the morphological organization of living and fossil organisms a theoretical tool called Morphospace is used. It is suggested that ontogenetic trajectories can be used as the generative functions that build morphospaces.

The evolution of floral homeotic gene function

Article Abstract:

This review examines the role of plant MADS-box genes, encoding transcriptional regulators, in the developmental processes. Specifically, involvement of these genes in the angiosperm lineages and in the genetic diversification-led morphological manifestations are discussed.
