Distinct roles for Argonaute proteins in small RNA-directed RNA cleavage pathways

Article Abstract:

The concept of microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), which are considered to be loaded into the same RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), where they guide mRNA degradation or translation silencing depending on the complementarityEs of the target, for which in Drosophila, Argunaute2 (AGO2) was identified as part of the RISC complex. The results revealed that maturation and the function of siRNAs and miRNAs have differential requirements for Argonaute proteins in Drosophila.

Chromosome-wide gene-specific targeting of the Drosophila dosage compensation complex

Article Abstract:

Male specific lethal 1(MSL1) protein binding was visualized along the X chromosome by combining chromatin immunoprecipitation with high-resolution microarrays, to identify bound genes and attempt to isolate the targeting cues. The results demonstrate gene-specific binding of the dosage compensation complex (DCC) and identify several sequence elements that may partly direct its targeting.

Distinct HP1 and Su(var)3-9 complexes bind to sets of developmentally coexpressed genes depending on chromosomal location

Article Abstract:

Large-scale mapping and analysis of in vivo target loci of the proteins HP1, HP1c and Su(var)3-9 in Drosophila Kc cells that are of embryonic origin was conducted to identify few genes that are regulated by Heterochromatin proteins. It was found that HP1 and su(var)3-9 binds together to transposable elements and gene that are predominantly pericentric.
