Dorsoventral patterning in the Drosophila central nervous system: the intermediate neuroblasts defective homeobox gene specifies intermediate column identity

Article Abstract:

A new Drosophila homeobox gene, intermediate neuroblasts defective (ind) has been described. It specifies intermediate column identity in the central nervous system (CNS) in dorsoventral patterning in Drosophila. Vertebrate genes are closely related to ind, vnd, and msh and expressed in corresponding intermediate, ventral and dorsal domains in neurogenesis. Dorsoventral patterning in the CNS may be evolutionarily conserved.

Incredible journey: How do developmental signals travel through tissue?

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to determine developmental signaling proteins traverse tissue during animal development, through or around tightly packed cells. It is observed that signaling protein movement is regulated to create gradients, control amounts, impose barriers, or provide direction.
