Drosophila checkpoint kinase 2 couples centrosome function and spindle assembly to genomic integrity

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that a null mutation in the checkpoint kinase 2 homolog totally suppresses the mitotic response to DNA damage and replication defects in Drosophila. Furthermore, since the homolog is localized to centrosomes and spindle microtubules, a homolog-dependent pathway disrupts spindle assembly and chromosome segregation.

The evolving concept of a stem cell: entity or function?

Article Abstract:

This review examines several concepts of stem cells and how the emerging knowledge about them constantly alters their definition, whether they are structural entities or functional units. Stem cells exhibit mobility between tissues and cell fate changes, which suggests plasticity and dynamic nature of their functional aspects.

Multi-organ, multi-lineage engraftment by a single bone marrow-derived stem cell

Article Abstract:

Research shows that during bone marrow homing, the rare hematopoietic stem cells show an increase in the expression of CD34 and SCA-1. Data indicate that such adult bone marrow cells can differentiate into epithelial cells of various organs and tissues.
