Drosophila p53 binds a damage response element at the reaper locus

Article Abstract:

Drosophila p53 has been found to bind a damage response element at the reaper locus. This Drosophila homolog of p53 has been described and it has been shown that it can activate transcription from a promoter having binding sites for human p53. The corresponding gene is a tumor suppressor gene.

Article Abstract:

This review discusses the role of p53 protein in the cell apoptotic process leading to selective destruction of stressed and abnormal cells. Recent advances in elucidating the mechanism of tumor suppression and initiation of cancer protection process, both mediated by p53, are presented.

P53 and prognosis: New insights and further complexity

Article Abstract:

Researches provide evidence that levels of Mdm2 in humans or presence of mutant forms of p53 in mice could have profound impacts on survival and tumorigenesis. The findings are also expected to lead to new diagnosis and therapeutic approaches to treating cancer patients.
