Extensive immigration from compensatory hatchery releases into wild Atlantic salmon population in the Baltic sea: Spatio-temporal analysis over 18 years

Article Abstract:

The rate and impact of immigration from the main hatchery stocks of Atlantic salmon in the Gulf of Bothnia into one of the largest wild salmon populations in the Baltic sea is examined. The results demonstrate extensive straying from geographically distant hatchery releases into wild salmon population and emphasizes the genetic risks associated with current large-scale stocking practices in the Baltic sea.

Kin-biased distribution in brown trout: an effect of redd location or kin recognition?

Article Abstract:

A study to detect if salmonids show possible kin-biased distribution on microgeographical scales in wild brown trout under natural conditions is presented. However, the results are equivocal and do not allow for unequivocally rejecting the hypothesis that association between highly related trout merely reflects dispersal from the same spawning redds.

Evolutionary genetics: A ring of species

Article Abstract:

The model on how new species can arise through 'circular overlap' without interruption of gene flow through intervening populations is confirmed. The study shows that reproductive isolation can arise through 'isolation-by-distance' such that large distances themselves restrict gene flow. NOT DONE
