Detection of Ralstonia solanacearum, which causes brown rot of potato, by fluorescent in situ hybridization with 23S rRNA-targeted probes

Article Abstract:

A fast and reliable detection method based on fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) was developed for the detection of Ralstonia solanacearum which causes brown rot in potatoes. Two specific probes, RSOLA and RSOLB, were developed for R. solanacearum and the closely related Ralstonia syzgii and blood disease bacterium. The specificity of the probes was proven through dot blot hybridization with RNA isolated from 88 bacterial strains.

A flow cytometric method for rapid selection of novel industrial yeast hybrids

Article Abstract:

A yeast mating technology independent of genetic markers and applicable to the development of improved strains that have industrial applications is described. The technique involves labeling the parent strains with different fluorescent dyes and determining the hybrid strains by their dye. This technique is applicable to both traditional and rare mating procedures. Flow cytometric methods are used to identify the hybrid strains.
