Functional comparison of the nematode Hox gene lin-39 in C. elegans and P. pacificus reveals evolutionary conservation of protein function despite divergence of primary sequences

Article Abstract:

Functional comparison of the nematode Hox gene lin-39 in Caenorhabditis elegans and Pristionchus pacificus nematodes, has shown evolutionary conservation of protein function although divergence of primary sequences exists. Ppa-lin-39 was introduced in a Cel-lin-39 mutant background, controlled by either Ppa-lin-39 regulatory elements or regulatory regions from the Cel-lin-39 gene itself. A possible role of Cel-LIN-39 was considered with it a direct target for MAPK phosphorylation.

Evolution of cell lineage and pattern formation in the vulval equivalence group of Rhabditid nematodes

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of the pattern formation and cell lineages in the vulva equivalence of six species of the family Rhabditidae reveals the presence of evolutionary modifications at various levels. Different species have different numbers of vulva precursor cells (VPCs). Majority of the animals of the genera Protorhabditis have additional or altered cells of VPCs forming vulval tissue.
