G protein signaling events are activated at the leading edge of chemotactic cells

Article Abstract:

The localization of the cytoskeletal and signal transduction components of Dictyostelium discoideum's chemotactic cells were studied using the GFP method and immunohistochemical staining. It was established that chemotactic reactions are influenced by G protein-linked signaling events and that the cytosolic regulator of adenylyl cyclase protein must be translocated to the plasma membrane. Chemoattractant receptors and G protein subunits were evenly localized at the cell periphery and subsequently activated the adenyl cyclases.

A novel Myb homolog initiates Dictyostelium development by induction of adenylyl cyclase expression

Article Abstract:

The process of development in Dictyostelium is prompted by starvation-induced DdMyb2 activation. This leads to adenylyl activity and produces cAMP, which triggers differentiation-inducing signals. The DdMyb2 gene is a DNA-binding motif of Myb-related transcription factors. Mutants without DdMyb2 can be rescued with ectopic expression of ACA.

A G alpha-dependent pathway that antagonizes multiple chemoattractant responses that regulate directional cell movement

Article Abstract:

A novel signaling function in Dictyostelium involving a G alpha subunit that antagonizes broad chemotactic response is identified. It is found that functionally similar G alpha-mediated inhibitory signaling may exist in other eukaryotic cells to regulate chemoattractant response.
