Genetic regulation of bone mass and susceptibility to osteoporosis

Article Abstract:

The evidence for a genetic contribution to osteoporosis and related phenotypes is reviewed and the mechanisms by which mutations and polymorphisms in genes that regulate susceptibility to osteoporosis affect major signaling pathways in bone is discussed. Osteoporosis is a common disease with a strong genetic component characterized by reduced bone mass and increased risk of fragility fractures.

Myosin phosphatase dephosphorylates HDAC7, controls its nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and inhibits apoptosis in thymocytes

Article Abstract:

Protein phosphatase and myosin phophatase targeting subunit 1, two components of the myosin phosphatase complex, are identified as histone deacetylase 7 (HDAC7)-associated proteins in thymocytes. The dephosphorylation of HDAC7 by myosin phosphatase, its nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and its role as a transcriptional repressor that inhibits apoptosis in thymocytes are explained.

Introns play an essential role in splicing-dependent formation of the exon junction complex

Article Abstract:

Study is presented to show that exon junction complex (EJC) components are prmarily recruited to the spliceosome by association with the intron via the intron-binding protein, IBP160.
