Growth of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is promoted by exogenous hydroxamate and catechol siderophores

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the capacity of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (A. pleuropneumoniae) strains to acquire iron from hydroxamate of catechol siderophores. Experiments with hydroxamate compounds showed that all serotypes of A. pleuropneumoniae except serotype 10 and a field of serotype 5 are able to use ferrichrome to promote growth under iron-limited conditions. A carbacephalosporin was also observed to counter A. pleuropneumoniae activity.

Real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis of expression stability of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae housekeeping genes during in vivo growth under iron-depleted conditions

Article Abstract:

Bacterial gene expression was studied during in vitro exponential and early stationary growth in medium with and without sufficient iron, respectively. The aims of the investigation were to develop and test a sensitive and reproducible method for the study of gene expression in Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae by real-time quantitative reverse transcription (RT)-PCR and to evaluate a number of suitable internal controls.

Attachment of enteric viruses to bottles

Article Abstract:

An elution protocol was developed and combined with a rapid and sensitive real-time reverse transcription-PCR-based method to quantify adsorbed norovirus and rotavirus on bottle walls. The results strongly support the theory that bottled water is not a vehicle for viral infections.
