Heliconius wing patterns: An evo-devo model for understanding phenotypic diversity

Article Abstract:

The role of heliconiine butterflies as an emerging evo-devo model for phenotypic change is discussed. The proof for positional homology observed between pattern switch genes within Heliconius presents exciting possibilities for comparative studies of the pattern specification pathways and insights into the evolution of genome complexity, synteny, recombination rates, and cis-regulatory change.

Realized correlated responses to artificial selection on pre-adult life-history traits in a butterfly

Article Abstract:

Artificial selection experiments are used for targeting on egg size, development time or pupal mass within a single butterfly population followed by a common-garden experiment to analyze the interactions among the life-history traits. The results have shown that the correlated responses to selection as well as phenotypic correlations are unpredictable.

First-generation linkage map of the warningly colored butterfly Heliconius erato

Article Abstract:

Linkage analysis of Heliconius erato is crucial to understand the genetic architecture behind adaptive change in wing patterns. Using an efficient interspecific crossing design, the first genetic linkage analysis of Heliconius erato is presented.
