Hierarchical assembly of the budding yeast kinetochore from multiple subcomplexes

Article Abstract:

Kinetochores, multiprotein complexes assemble on centromeric DNA and attach chromosomes to spindle microtubules. Biophysical technique is used to examine the state of association of 31 centromere-binding proteins and the findings indicate that the yeast kinetochores resemble transcriptional enhancers that assemble on DNA to form a very large structure.

Nucleolar protein PinX1p regulates telomerase by sequestering its protein catalytic subunit in an inactive complex lacking telomerase RNA

Article Abstract:

The overexpression of yeast PinX1p (yPinX1p) that results in shortened telomerase and decreased in vitro telomerase activity is reported. It is proposed that the yPinX1 regulates telomerase by sequestering its protein catalytic subunit in an inactive complex lacking telomerase RNA.
