How the sperm lost its tail: The evolution of aflagellate sperm

Article Abstract:

The mating system of the taxi and their nearest sister taxi from a group of 36 taxonomic, which was revealed by the literature review, included from red algae to fish were found independently to have evolved aflagellate sperm. An analysis of the sister-group provided weak evidence suggesting that the evolution of aflagellate sperm could be linked to the removal of selective pressures generated by sperm competition.

A discussion that research on sexual selection in spiders has been biased towards modalities that are easily accessible to the human observer is presented. Although the research has progressed since Darwin, whose spider examples are reanalyzed in the context of contemporary knowledge, the same biases and methodological constraints have persisted almost unchanged through the current boom of research.
