In silico model as a tool for interpretation of intestinal infection studies

Article Abstract:

A basic in silico model for a first-order approximation of the colonization of bacterial pathogens in the gut is described and its ability to reproduce experimental data is examined. The results have shown that the model has enhanced the interpretation of in vivo gastrointestinal experiments and will facilitate research trajectories towards new functional foods that improve resistance to pathogenic bacteria in humans.

Adherence of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli 0157, 026, and 0111 strains to bovine intestinal explants Ex vivo

Article Abstract:

The bovine intestinal organ culture used to study infection by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serogroups 0157, 026, and 0111 revealed that 0157 and non-0157 EHEC strains could colonize and induce A/E lesions on bovine intestinal explants from various sites including the terminal rectum.
