In silico reconstruction of the metabolic pathways of Lactobacillus plantarum: Comparing predictions of nutrients requirements with those from growth experiments

Article Abstract:

The reconstruction of the metabolic pathways of Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 within the framework of Pathway Tools is described. The pathway-genome database called as LacplantCyc is found to be the most extensively curated pathway-genome database for grampositive bacteria and is open to the microbiology community via World Wide Web.

Characterization of the role of para-aminobenzoic acid biosynthesis in folate production by Lactococcus lactis

Article Abstract:

The identification and characterization of the pab genes for para-aminobenzoic acid (pABA) biosynthesis in Lactococccus lactis are described. The results have shown that elevated folate levels can be obtained by the overexpression of folate combined with the overexpression of the pABA biosynthesis gene cluster.

Identification of prebiotic fructooligosaccharide metabolism in Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 through microarrays

Article Abstract:

The genomic basis of the metabolic activity of short-chain fructouligosaccharides in Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 is identified. Lactobacillus was able to grow only with short-chain fructooligosaccharides using micro-array techniques.
