Induction of large DNA palindrome formation in yeast: implications for gene amplification and genome stability in eukaryotes

Article Abstract:

The mechanisms of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) palindrome formation during the process of gene amplification was analyzed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Palindromic DNA formation in yeast cells was initiated by introducing double-strand breaks next to a pair of inverted nucleotide repeats in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome. Furthermore, the similarity of DNA palindrome formation between Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Tetrahymena thermophila indicated the presence of a general pathway of ribosomalDNA palindrome formation in eukaryotes.

Global transcription regulators of eukaryotes

Article Abstract:

Biophysical, genetic and biochemical approaches have been used to determine global transcription regulators of eukaryotes. These studies resulted to the identification of a minimal set of general and regulated factors that are needed for transcription of a naked DNA template. These include 30 polypeptides for unregulated transcription and 60 polypeptides for regulated transcription. It was also found that nucleosome positioning affects the regulation of 5S RNA transcription.

Reconstructing/deconstructing the earliest eukaryotes: how comparative genomics can help

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the eukaryote-specific molecular and cellular machinery evolution. The review of the articles on the effect of the living eukaryotes with the primitive cellular structures on this evolution machinery is presented.
