Inheritance of 12 microsatellite loci in Oncorhynchus mykiss

Article Abstract:

The use of microsatellite markers in genome mapping is valuable because they have the reputation of being the most powerful Mendelian markers ever found. Until now, genetic interpretation of microsatellite polymorphisms in Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus mykiss) has been based on an indirect approach derived from allele frequencies. A new study of four families of Pacific salmon verifies disomic segregation of seven microsatellite loci and reveals the presence of null alleles at two loci. The findings of null alleles, size homoplasy, tandem duplication of a loci and pairwise linkage associations among loci suggest that they are common across all microsatellite loci.

Genetic basis of variation in morphological and life-history traits of a wild population of pink salmon

Article Abstract:

A study on the characterization of the genetic basis of phenotypic variation in the pink salmon species by estimating its heritabilities and genetic correlations of morphological and life-history traits is presented. Results indicate that like phenotypic variation, phenotypic correlations are dependent to a great extent on environmental variation.

Genetic linkage mapping of allozyme loci in even- and odd-year pink salmon (oncorhynchus gorbuscha)

Article Abstract:

Genetic linkage maps of allozyme loci in even- and odd-year pink salmon (oncorhynchus gorbuscha) are constructed using the total of 320 families. Substantial variation was observed in recombination frequencies among different families within broodline and between sexes within broodlines.
