Integrin activation and cytoskeletal interaction are essential for the assembly of a fibronectin matrix

Article Abstract:

The binding of Fibronectin (Fn) to integrins and an intact cytoskeleton helps in Fn matrix formation. Fn binding to integrin alpha(sub IIb)-beta(sub 3) initiates Fn matrix formation. A complete matrix forms after an interaction of the beta subunit cytoplasmic domain with the actin cytoskeleton. A truncated beta subunit or cytochalasin D, which affects the cytoskeleton, suppresses matrix formation, but the binding of Fn to integrin alpha(sub IIb)-beta(sub 3) is unaffected. Fn matrix is necessary during development and wound healing.

A kinesin, InvA, plays an essential role in Volvox morphogenesis

Article Abstract:

The inversion or the turning inside out of the embryo is mediated by the kinesin protein, InvA, encoded by the invA gene in Volvox carteri. Kinesin protein is localized in the cytoplasmic bridges and influences the motility of the embryo to invert by forming a bend region that turns the embryo inside out. Mutants lacking kinesin are unable to accomplish this inversion.

Migfilin and Mig-2 link focal adhesions to filamin and the actin cytoskeleton and function in cell shape modulation

Article Abstract:

Results show that in the cell shape modulation, migfilin adhesion protein interacts with the cell-matrix adhesion protein mitogen inducible gene-2 and the actin binding filamin. Data indicate that loss of mitogen inducible gene-2 protein or migfilin negatively affects cell shape modulation.
