Involvement of acyl coenzyme A oxidase isozymes in biotransformation of methyl ricinoleate into gamma-decalactone by Yarrowia lipolytica

Article Abstract:

Of the five isozymes for acyl coenzyme A oxidase (Aox) in Yarrowia lipolytica, Aox4p is essential for producing gamma-decalactone from fatty acids. This was the conclusion of researchers who analyzed lactone production in strains with mutations in one or several Aox genes.

Role of beta-oxidation enzymes in gamma-decalactone production by the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica

Article Abstract:

Inhibiting the enzyme acyl-CoA oxidase in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica could increase the yield of gamma-decalactone. Gamma-decalactone is an aroma compound used industrially but the poor yield from yeasts is due partially to a reconsumption of the compound. This does not occur in yeasts that lack acyl-CoA oxidase activity.

Lipid accumulation, lipid body formation and acyl coenzyme a oxidases of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica

Article Abstract:

Yarrowia lipolytica is comprised of five acyl-coenzyme A oxidases (Aox), which are programmed by the POX1 to POX5 genes, which catalyze the borderline of perioxisomal beta-oxidation. The volume of the intracellular lipid bodies (LBs) along with their composition varies depending upon the POX genotype.
