Localization of matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2 to the surface of invasive cells by interaction with integrin alpha-v-beta-3

Article Abstract:

The matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2 localizes in a proteolytically active form on the surface of invasive cells due to its ability to bind directly to alpha-v-beta-3 integrin. This facilitates cell-mediated collagen degradation. The binding requires the C-terminal region of MMP-2. MMP-2 and alpha-v-beta-3 integrin specifically colocalize on angiogenic blood vessels and melanoma cells. Alpha-v-beta-3 functions as a cell-surface receptor that controls both matrix motility and proteolytic degradation.

Cell death inhibition: keeping caspases in check

Article Abstract:

Cell death inhibition is discussed in this mini-review article, which emphasizes keeping caspases in check relative to apoptosis. Mechanisms of the direct caspase inhibition are the focus, amplified with a description of the structure of a viral inhibitor in complex with a caspase.

Characterization of a serine protease that cleaves pro-gamma-melanotropin at the adrenal to stimulate growth

Article Abstract:

Research shows that a serine protease is upregulated during adrenal cortex growth and is expressed in the outer adrenal cortex. Data reveal that the cell surface bound protease cleaves its substrate, pro-gamma-MSH in a specific manner.
