Localization of ribosomal genes in Pleuronectiformes using Ag-, CMA(sub.3)-banding and in situ hybridization

Article Abstract:

The analysis of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in five species of the order Pleuronectiformes, group of fish not thoroughly studied cytogenetically is presented. Evidence of a NOR-site polymorophism was seen in Platichthys flesus and Sophthalmus maximus. NOR location seemed to be the same within families, but seemed to differ from one family to another. The phylogenetic relationships proposed for the order are supported.

Population analysis of an unusual NOR-site polymorphism in brown trout (Salmo trutta L.)

Article Abstract:

The distribution of NOR-site variation in brown trout has shown significant statistical differences vs allozyme variation compared to the populations studied in northwestern Spain in 225 individuals from 20 native populations. The high dispersion of NOR-site variants within and among populations suggests the transposition phenomenon responsible for NOR jumping may remain active.

Ribosomal genes in Coregonid fishes (Coregonus lavaretus, C. albula and C. peled)(Salmonidae): single and multiple nucleolus organizer regions

Article Abstract:

Single and multiple nucleolus organizer regions in ribosomal genes have been studied in three closely related coregonine salmonid fishes, the vendace, European whitefish, and the peled. All positive Ag-NORs found corresponded to rDNA-ISH- and DMA(sub.3)-positive signals. This result suggests extensive structural polymorphism in locations of rDNA sites.
