Longitudinal study of the frequency and duration of breastfeeding in rural Bangladeshi women

Article Abstract:

The effects of maternal factors such as mother's age, birth interval, and sex of the baby on the frequency and duration of breastfeeding is investigated in rural Bangladeshi women, to examine any variation in breastfeeding pattern between women according to their occupational status. Results show that older mothers breastfeed more, male infants feed with higher frequency and duration for the first two months after birth, and housewives breastfeed more after 6 months than rural working-women.

Family composition and menarcheal age: Anti-inbreeding strategies

Article Abstract:

Retrospective data on menarcheal age and family composition were collected to better understand social influences on sexual maturation, and it was observed that absence of a biological father, the presence of half- and step-brothers and an urban environment are associated with early menarche. These findings suggest putative human pheromones that modulate sexual maturation to promote gene survival and prevent inbreeding, which occurs in rodents and nonhuman primates.

Patterns for the initiation of breastfeeding in humans

Article Abstract:

Biobehavioral models of initiation of breastfeeding are developed to examine early breastfeeding behavior over a variety of human cultural and ecological contexts. The model was examined on 26,220 mother-infant pairs collected from 25 previously published studies of breastfeeding behavior. Research suggests that learned behavior play an important role in mediating breastfeeding behavior.
