Metabolic primers for detection of (per)chlorate-reducing bacteria in the environment and phylogenetic analysis of cld gene sequences

Article Abstract:

The development of chlorite dismutase (cld) primer sets for the environmental detection of (per)chlorate-reducing bacterial as well as the first phylogenetic analysis of the cld gene is reported. The comparisons of the cld and 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) gene trees showed that the cld gene does not track 16S rDNA phylogeny, further implicating the possible role of horizontal transfer in the evolution of (per)chlorate respiration.

Characterization of the argA gene required for arginine biosynthesis and syringomycin production by Pseudomonas syrinage pv. syrinage

Article Abstract:

Sequence analysis of the 8-kb genomic DNA fragment that complements the syrA phenotype revealed high conservation among a broad spectrum of fluorescent pseudomonads. The results demonstrate that the syrA locus is the argA gene of P. syrinage pv. syrinage and that argA are directly involved in arginine biosynthesis and therefore indirectly affect syringomycin production because of arginine deficiency.

Development and testing of a DNA macroarray to assess nitrogenase (nifH) gene diversity

Article Abstract:

A DNA macroarray is developed and evaluated for its potential to distinguish variants of the dinitrogenase reductenase (nifH) gene. The array is designed to reflect the diversity of the nifH gene sequences obtained from clone libraries generated by PCR amplification of genomic DNA samples.
