Microsatellite DNA variation reveals high gene flow and panmictic populations in the Adriatic shared stocks of the European squid and cuttlefish (Cephalopoda)

Article Abstract:

Analysis of microsatellite variation in geographical samples of the cephalopods, collected from all parts of the Adriatic Sea, is performed using arrays of species-specific di-nucleotide and tri-nucleotide loci. The weak spatial genetic differentiation, the discordant results of the genetic divergence estimators and the lack of any geographical cline in the spatial genetic differences suggest the occurrence of single genetically homogeneous populations within the Adriatic stocks of both species.

Evolutionary response to climatic change?

Article Abstract:

The effect of climate changes on the phenological response exhibited by the species is examined. The analysis has shown that a small number of species having the necessary genetic variance might dominate many plant communities, with potentially far-fetching consequences for biodiversity and ecosystem function.

Extremely high cytoplasmic diversity in natural and breeding populations of Lolium (Poaceae)

Article Abstract:

A study to characterize the chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) allelic and haplotypic diversity in natural and breeding populations of Lolium species belonging to the Poaceae family was conducted. An extremely high number of haplotypes were identified and their biogeographical distribution described.
