Microsatellite marker development and analysis in the eastern Oyster (Crasostera virginica): confirmation of Null Alleles and non-mendelian segregation ratios

Article Abstract:

Eighteen microsatellite markers are developed for the Crassostera virginica nuclear genome, including di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide microsatellite repeat regions that included perfect, imperfect, and compound repeat sequences. The sequence analysis revealed not only variations in the number of simple sequence repeat units, but also polymorphisms in the microsatellite flanking regions.

Isolation by distance in the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, in Chesapeake Bay

Article Abstract:

Spatial and temporal population structures were examined in Crassostrea virginica from Chesapeake Bay using eight microsatellite loci. Genotypic exact tests demonstrated significant levels of geographic differentiation overall, and a subtle pattern of isolation by distance (IBD) was observed.

Wild and aquaculture populations of the eastern oyster compared using microsatellites

Article Abstract:

Five new microsatellite markers were developed and tested on a wild population and hatchery stain of Crassotera virginica. Results show lower generic variability in the hatchery strain [DEBY.sup.TM] and important genetic differentiation between the wild population and hatchery strain.
