Transformation of azo dye isomers by Streptomyces chromofuscus A11

Article Abstract:

The effects of substitution patterns on biodegradability of dimethyl-hydroxy-azobenzene 4'-sulfonic acids by Streptomyces chromofuscus are studied using 14 mono-azo dyes. Two substitution patterns are considered in the investigation. Results show that replacement of the sulfonic group in dimethyl-hydroxy-azobenzene 4'-sulfonic acids by a carboxylic group enhance over dye biodegradability by S. chromofuscus a11.

Transformation of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) by actinomycetes isolated from TNT-contaminated and uncontaminated environments

Article Abstract:

Actinomycete strains were isolated from 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and compared for TNT tolerance and TNT transformation capabilities. TNT tolerance did not exhibit significant changes among strains. Data suggested that streptomyces species is either inhibited by TNT concentrations or reduces TNT nitro groups.
