Molecular and biotechnological aspects of microbial proteases

Article Abstract:

The cloning and sequencing of protease genes from several fungi, bacteria and viruses were conducted. Objectives include overproduction using gene amplification, changes in enzyme properties for commercial application an delineation of the role of the enzyme in pathogenecity. Methodology used was protein engineering to derive proteases whose protein sequences were analyzed. Despite the systematic application of recombinant technology and protein engineering for the alteration of properties, it was not possible to obtain microbial proteases ideal for biotechnological applications.

Cell biology and molecular basis of denitrification

Article Abstract:

Denitrification is one of the main branches of the global nitrogen cycle supported by bacteria. It is part of the bioenergetic mechanism of the bacterial cell and is a means of energy conservatin, making use of N oxides. Denitrification has been observed in halophilic and hyperthemophilic archaea and in the mitochondria of fungi.

Biology of Pseudomonas stutzeri

Article Abstract:

Studies reveal that Pseudomonas stutzeri is a nonfluorescent denitrifying bacterium widely distributed in the environment. It has received much attention due to its particular metabolic properties and it is proposed as a model organism for denitrification studies.
